Field Studies

I am spending this season in Granada's Albaicín, in the shadow of the Alhambra, studying firsthand accounts of the targeted extraction of the Arabic language and the expulsion of the people who spoke it here— immersed in echoes of once-forbidden cultural practices, incubated in secret for centuries, and flourishing in intriguing ways today.
